The Virginia Fire Chiefs’ Association (VFCA) is very excited to deliver the next residential Virginia Fire Officer Academy (VFOA) in June 2026. This 6-day residential program is designed to develop the leadership skills of aspiring and new company officers across the Commonwealth of Virginia. All meals and lodging will be provided. Ensure you are submitting your application to the correct academy. Applications submitted to the incorrect academy will not be considered. Additionally, please check all of your calendars (personal, department, etc.) prior to applying to prevent any conflicts.
Selected students will arrive in Richmond on Sunday and will be required to stay in provided lodging. Course work will occur from Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon.
THIS IS A RESIDENTIAL ACADEMY AND STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE 100% ATTENDANCE.

All three of the documents below must be submitted in the proper format and according to directions in order for your application to be considered.
A professional resume shall be submitted with each application.
A letter of support from your Fire Chief or Department Director is required to show their support of your attendance and ability to cover associated costs of the program.
Applicant will write a one-page business letter to the selection committee explaining why they should be accepted into the VFOA. The letter should be at least 300 words and be written on your Department's official letterhead. If no letterhead is available, please ensure the proper business letter format is used.
